A friend in the home school community which lived in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, contact me via short messages. She asked a simple skirt to her toddler. Because I‘m do not have a sewing project at that time, so I said yes to her request. I photographed a collection of fabrics that I have, and the choice fell on the polka-dot motif there. I also asked her to measure the length and width of the skirt she wants. For children aged 6 months, she asked for a long skirt with a length of 25 cm and a circumference of 60 cm along the bottom. This skirt deliberately made rather large to be used in a long time period. Baby growth so fast!
Materials necessary for make a simple skirt:
Cotton fabric measuring 50cm
Needle and thread
Cut the squared shape fabric measuring 65 cm x 45 cm.
Gather the 45 cm’ s side with good parts facing each other and then sew.
Sew the bottom of the skirt by folding it into about 2cm.
At the top skirt, fold the size of about 5 cm for elastic place and sew around it. Do not forget to leave a little as a way to insert the elastic band.
Enter the elastic with a safety pin
Close the seams and the skirt is ready to wear!
