Ihsan is getting bigger now. His age was 10 months. Many of his pants were too small, especially that used to go out of the house. I took the initiative to create shorts from the rest of soft denim fabric when making pants for his father. This material is comfortable enough to be used by children. Soft denim should be washed several times before being cut and sewn because it will have faded and shrunk.
Here is a simple tutorial to make pants for toddler.
• pattern (as shown below)
• Fabrics (can use denim, soft denim, or cotton) about 0.5 meter
• Elastic waist with appropriate length (40 cm)
This shorts pattern can be used for infants aged 9 to 12 months or which have a weight of about 7-8 kg.
Step 1 Copy the pattern on paper, and attach it to the fabric that has been folded. Cut the fabric according to the paper pattern to obtain two pieces of fabric.
Step 2 With right side together, sew inner leg seam for each piece of pattern (note the marked portion on the image below)
Step 3 With right side facing together, sew center front seam. Do the same thing for center back seam.
Step 4 Fold the top of the pants along the 2.5 cm and sew at the top. Do not forget to leave elastic seam for entry. Insert elastic at the top of the pants, unite both ends and sew. Close the rest of the seam.
Step 5 Hem bottom pants and you’re done!
I took the pictures when Ihsan cool to play with his baby walker and his toy. The butt of his pants look bulky because he is quite fat, plus it because he was using sobi minky cloth diaper.
Look what he’s holding in his hand! My DSLR camera lens cap! In fact, it is quite difficult to took this picture because he was very interested in the objects around it, especially objects that emit a clicking sound as my camera’s
